Sometimes choosing the type of food for your dog is the same as what we need to feed our children. There is a lot of choice, different qualities, prices and everyone seems to have an opinion on what you should do for your dog.

At Kybrooke Pet Resort pet accommodation the choice for us has involved many hours of research, attending seminars and many different trials. Here is a summary of the meals your pet will received when in our Melbourne dog boarding kennel.

For dogs, we serve two different types of food. The first is a locally produced fresh product called 4legs. It is made of human grade chicken, rice & vegetables with no preservatives in bit size pieces. This very palatable and is wonderful for dogs who are accustomed to fresh food, older dogs and smaller dogs. Depending on what your dog likes to eat, dry food can be offered at our boarding kennels.

The dry food that we serve at our dog boarding kennels is very high quality – Royal Canin. This brand of dry food comes in Mini – for our smallest dogs, Medium for medium dogs, Maxi for our larger dog like Labradors, German Short Haired Pointers etc. and a puppy variety that is offered to all dogs under the age of 12 months.

The frequency of meals at our dog boarding kennels are served according to the type of dog. Our main is given in the afternoon. We offer a light breakfast to all dogs, with the exception of puppies and any other dogs who need a full breakfast or have a medical requirement.

All treats given to dogs who come to our dog boarding kennels are preservative free and are naturally dried. We find these a nutritious and valuable part of the dogs’ health and wellbeing, where we pride ourselves in offering the best for your dog at our boarding kennels.

What really does happen when you leave your dog at our dog boarding kennel accommodation? Our philosophy here at Kybrooke is that we want your dog to feel as comfortable here as they do at home. Your dog can enjoy all the activities they do at home here at our dog boarding kennel. All pet owners know what it takes to be a good pet owner, ie – walks, playtimes, cuddles, healthy diet and proper care to promote health & wellbeing. Your dog is housed in roomy and very clean pet accommodation. We ensure that your dog has a neighbour that they are compatible with.

Our daily routine is as follows for the purpose of this article, we have called the dog – Jack;

First thing in the morning Jacks’ pet accommodation is fully cleaned, disinfected and water changed. During this time, his carers, Maddi, Jayde or Jodie take him to a grassed exercise area to toilet, run, sniff, play etc. His carers will chat to him on the way to and from the exercise yard and take note of his general wellbeing. He then goes back into his dog accommodation to enjoy breakfast, a health check, a pat and cuddle.

When all the dogs are cared for, it is time to start the fun stuff! He is scheduled for daily playtimes, nature walks and treats. Maddi puts him on to an extend-a-lead and head out through the bush track for a 30 minute walk. This walk goes past our dam, through the bush and past the house. Very relaxing, stimulating and shady. After his outing, he is returned to his dog accommodation area for a drink and a rest. He is settled into his run with his treat – today a pig ears and he can chew this and rest until mid afternoon when it is time for his playtime.

Jack is very social and loves the company of other dogs. A few of his good mates, Rusty the Lab, Jaxson the Golden Retriever and Aston the Dalmatian all play nicely together and they are supervised by Maddi who is also available to give cuddles, throw a ball, play tug-o-war and rub tummies etc. After this fun time, we head back to the dog accommodation area for another rest. Before we know it, dinnertime is upon us and our healthy and delicious meals are served. Each meal is weighed and made up individually for each dog. Dogs are also weighed on a regular basis to ensure that the meals we are serving are correct. After dinner, those lovely girls take him back out to the exercise area so he can toilet, sniff, run & play before we then tuck him into bed, in his lovely accommodation.

This has been a busy, fun and stimulating day for Jack. He sleeps in his lovely accommodation, to reenergize for what the next day brings. In his dreams……..’will it be Maddi, Jayde, Jodie, Emily, Karen or Mark tomorrow……….what will my delicious treat be?…….will my best buddy Rusty still be here……..’ Pleasant dreams Jack.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that our own family was in a quandary as to what to do with our pet’s accommodation while we were away. Choosing a Melbourne Boarding Kennel proved to be quite difficult, trying to mix family care with adequate supervision, acceptable pet accommodation with a personal touch and knowledge and caring with safe facilities. Many of the Melbourne dog boarding kennels that we found were large pet accommodation facilities, so looking for a more personalized dog boarding kennel lead us to Kybrooke Pet Resort.

Set in the hills surrounding Melbourne, this dog boarding kennel is more than a place to give you pet accommodation, this is a truly unique home away from home for pets. What makes Kybrooke so special? Definitely our understanding of animals! Dogs come to our boarding kennels with a happy waggy tail and are happy to come back to us time and time again. Most of them wave goodbye with their tail as soon as they enter our pet accommodation office and lead us to their dog accommodation area. We know how to keep pets happy. Some dogs prefer the quiet life and are happy to relax with treats and plenty of pats, others are fun loving and have friends, plays and walks. Others require gentle understanding and cuddles. We have made some wonderful friends for life, just by using our knowledge of dogs and using it to make their stay at Kybrooke a lovely holiday experience that they want to do again.
